Is Star Wars the New Beatles?

Today, I had a sad realization. I am as guilty as those Beatle loving boomers of worshiping childhood related pop culture.

Exhibit 1:

One day I showed my class what I thought was a very funny Star Wars video from YouTube. For a little Friday fun. Zero laughs. Barely stifled yawns. I was in shock. Didn't everyone know and love Star Wars? I mean my husband has one of the first three movies locked and loaded at any given time. You know, just in case. I suddenly realised most of my students were born after Return of the Jedi came out in 1983. Which they probably didn't see. If they had seen a Star Wars movie it was one of the terrible new ones. Star Wars as far as they were concerned was SO over. Yet, sad Gen X'ers like me keep hanging onto our Princess Leia dolls and repeating our sentences backwards. Sad, this makes me.

Exhibit 2:

I am SO excited about the potential Spice Girls reunion. I remember when Wannabe hit the air waves. And 'I'll tell you what I want, what I really really want!', more Spice Girls! I remember watching a 4 hour special on MuchMusic about everything Spice. And even the name, Spice Girls, seemed clever! I thought Girl Power and my crush on Ginger Spice's red hair and platform heels would last forever. When she pinched Prince Charles's tush girls everywhere felt saucy!

aThe difference between us and the Beatle whores is that Star Wars was really good. There hanging in, you must remain, young jedi.
