The Machine

When we were in Mexico we couldn't help but notice this very attractive young lady who ran the main bar at the hotel. It wasn't because she was so nice on the eyes, although that helped, it was because she was always there. It didn't seem to matter what time we came in, there she was. We nicknamed her 'The Machine'.

The Machine always had her long hair pulled back into a flawless ponytail. Not an easy feat with all the humidity. She was also always dressed in a dark three piece suit. At times where I felt I was panting through my mouth dog-like to cool down, she never even glistened in her heavy clothes. Mark and I would just marvel at her as she walked around barking commands into her walkie-talkie.

So we asked a staffer how many days they worked on and off. They do five days on, one day off, but many want two days off because they live in hotel quarters while they work and want to go home to see family, so they work ten days for two days off. Suddenly, I felt guilty about every complaint I had ever made about being overworked.

Wow. I don't think I'll complain for sometime about my job.

And, while you do look young for your age - which is a compliment - I totally would have served you still.

Thanks, Josie! You might just make the Christmas list with those sorts of comments! :-)

I get crabby if when I find out other moms work. I don't know how they do it.
