I was watching Pretty Woman the other day, and I there were a few things that hit me. The first was, how distasteful the content of the movie is. Honestly, how are you supposed to be charmed by the fact that a hooker, who's roommate is obviously some sort of addict, is selling herself to a debased businessman for $3000/week. What is romantic about that? Yuk.
But the other thing I thought about was how much I had wanted that brown and white polka dot dress she wears to the polo match. Of course, the design is all wrong for my body type, but I really lusted after that dress. So I started thinking about all the movies dresses I JUST HAD to have.
Which lead me to the dress Molly Ringwald wears to the dance in 16 Candles. I wanted that dress so bad! But since my town only had a Bay and a Sears, my chances of finding something like this were smaller than striking gold in my laundry hamper.
I also wanted pretty much every dress Grace Kelly wears in Rear Window. All designed by Edith Head. The Coco Chanel of costume designers. But then if I had my way, I would dress like Grace Kelly everyday of my life. It really is so sad that crinolines are no longer de rigeur.

I know EXACTLY what you mean about that dress Julia Roberts wore. I LOVED it! There are SO many dresses I would love to have. And you know, speaking of dresses, I can hardly find any I like any more! Is it me? Are "they" not making many dresses any more? I don't get it.
I agree about the dress in pretty woman, but more so I agree about the story line. I have always thought it was the worst love story ever!
I feel the same about Pretty Woman - both story and dress.
Grace Kelly was so elegant. I prefer her wardrobe in To Catch A Thief, especially the gown she wore the night her mother's jewelry was stolen.
