Not Homeless

Last week all the conditions on our home sale went through, so we now have a firm sale of our Lethbridge house. So we decided to put an offer in on the Townhouse we wanted in Banff on Friday. The people who own it had until Sunday at 5pm to let us know yeah or nay. We had made an offer on this place one other time and had pulled out when they wouldn't come down past $500,000. We just felt that for the amount of work that needed to go into it, that was just too much. We figured we would let them sit on the market for a few weeks to make our offer look more attractive, and if we found something else, that was fine too.

So last week their Realtor approaches ours. They are open to a new offer. So we offer them $480,000 firm. At exactly 5pm on Sunday we are told they countered our firm offer with $500,000. I was PISSED! I just spent 2 days waiting to hear back on our offer, when they counter with exactly what we had turned down before? Somebody was playing games. We told our Realtor we were not impressed and to write an offer on another townhouse that we wanted. We would come by and sign it the next day. At 9:30 pm that night, he calls back. The Townhouse we made the offer on is ours if we will come up to $490,000. Now, I will admit, I was f*cking tempted. Let''s just say there is a reason why Mark does all the haggling when we are in Mexico.

Me in Mexico:
   Salesmen: Seniora, for you $5!
Me: WOW, really? What a great deal. Sold!

Anyway, I was going to cave, but then I remembered how mad I was, and that there was a certain property on Squirrel Street I would like to look at one more time, and said, no. The next morning our Realtor calls, $480,000, it's ours. So now we own a townhouse in Banff. Why we couldn't  have owned the townhouse 24 hours sooner, is anyone's guess.

The one that needs work. It needs work, but it has more space. The other one had only 2 bedrooms, this one has 3, and an ensuite off the master, and a large deck.
