Phase 2

So this week I start the second phase of my training. I have a 4 mile run in April and while that is about the same length as 6K I still want to push my running time to 60 minutes for March and April. Everything I have read says that I should go for length over speed and since I am building up to the 10K Melissa run in September that seems wise. I was talking to my friend Dawn (she is also my partner in my Masters Class) and she has done the Melissa 3 times. She said her first year she did it in 1hour 16 minutes. Right now I am running about a 12 and a half minute mile, which translates into 1hour 23 minutues for 10K. My goal therefore, since I am not going to work on speed this summer is to build up to 80 minutes of run time. In May and June I will move my running time up to 70min then 80 for July and August. That should get me to the right place.

Mark is also doing a couple of triathalons this year. His first is on May 14 in Medicine Hat so anyone down there reading this is more then welcome to come out and cheer him on!
