Dissed

Last night I joined some friends for drinks. The evening started off pleasant enough. I met the two guys sitting with my girlfriends. While the one guy was jovial, engaging and easy to talk to, his friend was distant, and seemed incapable of opening his mouth without coming across like Prince Phillip.

Now, I am not going to lie. I am loud and opinionated. I am what you call an aquired taste. People either love me or hate me. However, living with Mark has blunted some of the edges so now instead of saying, "you don't fucking believe that do you?" I say, "oh, that's nice" while thinking (are you fucking kidding me!). Now my excess of personality still leaks out from time to time, so I have learned to deal with a wide range of reactions when people first meet me. But last night, I was on my best behaviour.

I tried making multiple conversations with the
Prince Phillip clone and got no where. I started talking about soccer, which I ended with the cliché, practice makes perfect. To which this lovely gentleman correct my prouncication of - twice. Then he says (while smoking his cigarette) that most people are lazy and don't really want to learn anything so how could they really improve. Charming.

LMAO!! Yes I too must learn to 'soften' the edges. That's why I have invented the persona known as Evil Margarita. If something truly heinous comes out of my mouth, I can jokingly blame it on her.

..."While the one guy was jovial, engaging and easy to talk to"?!?! I have spent a significant amount of time drilling into that 'gentleman' that he is socially inept! As your blog was a discussion topic that one night he has since read this post and is feeling pretty damned good about his social skills. WTF! One simple sentence has undone all of my constant nagging. This now suggests that the problem may after all be mine and not his. Highly unlikely, but he will milk this one for a while I am sure!

Hey Tash,

Sorry to undo all the careful work you have done. If it makes you feel better I do think I remember seeing him pick his nose. :-P
