The Bra Crisis in North America

I can't stand it. Two weeks ago I helped Jill with her trade show booth and I couldn't help but notice that a large number of women in North America hold the idea of donning a bra in utter contempt. Or they just don't care. Either way there was more boob bounce than in a Jordan photo spread. Of course, for most of these women sans-bra went well with their bowl cut.

What is it that causes this flip in some women? What happens that makes them get up one day, go out and get a Dorthy Hamil haircut, slap on a pair of stretch pants, and decide that it doesn't matter that their chest looks like a broken compass that only points north?

Bras need to be replaced every four to six months. They are made out of fabric and elastic. They hold up objects that may weigh the same as hand weights. Imagine! They actually give out.

Here is a quick test to see if you need a new bra. Place the palms of your hands aganst the side of your ribs about an inch under your arm pits. If your breasts are not sitting at attention at the point your hands are - you need a new bra. And if so, treat yourself, get a specialist to fit you. Safe bet that if you didn't notice your bra was shot, you probably are wearing the wrong size.

This is an issue that I feel very strongly about! I was a fit specialist as well I am someone who must wear a bra at ALL times in public! My breasts had a fight with each other a few years back I think, and now when they are released from the fortress of the bra the both head in different directions to get away from each other...unfortunately up/perky/straight ahead is no longer one of the directions. sigh...

I blame the turn fashion has taken towards halters, tube tops, backless, shirts, etc. These shirts are not designed for women with an ample bust (or even a moderate one). If you are a B cup or better you need a supportive bra; period. Nothing is more troubling than to see a girl with breasts flailing around in skimpy unsupportive tops. Furthermore most women don't know how to fit a bra properly and would rahter spend next to no money on their undergarments which are far more important than what's on the outside. Especially when you consider that good underwear can make you look thinner and dare I say YOUNGER!!
