Fashion Week

This past week has been New York Fashion Week. The week where all the hip, cool, and aspiring American designers show their Spring 2008 collections. Every year I become chained to my computer to view New York Magazine's website. They have the best coverage, updating everyday, with individual shots of each outfit from all that day's shows.

Now maybe you are asking yourself why a girl who can't possibly afford any of these clothes even bothers. Beauty, baby. And a healthy does of daydreaming. You never know, one day I might be able to afford some of this stuff. One day my butt may EVEN fit into some of this stuff. What is a girl without her dreams?

As per last year, there were in my opinion, winners, losers, breakout stars, stars who continued to suck, disappointments, and some collections that were as outrageous as you expected and therefore, ho hum. Below is my recap.

Winners:
Erin Fetherston. I had read about this girl, but had never seen any of her designs. Now I know what the fuss was about.

Catherine Malandrino. In the past she has never bowled me over. But her spring 2008 collection is wonderful. Lots of bright colours.

Donna Karan. I NEVER thought I would like this designer. She is just not my thing. She is Barbara Streisand's thing. But these clothes actually acknowledge that women have a waist and it isn't around their hips.

Carolina Herrera: Again, a label I have never been crazy for. But she showed a fantastic set of dresses.

Was Expecting More:
3.1 Phillip Lim. More and more starlets are wearing his stuff, and magazines love this guy. I found this collection seriously boring.

Badgley Mischka. I used to love, love, love these guy's dresses, but this collect just seem tired.

Micheal Kors: Ok, so he is on Project Runway. Yes, he sells a lot of stuff at ridiculous prices. I just can't figure out why. His stuff is so blah, it is always so safe, does he only sell to blue hairs?

Vera Wang: I would have thought after her babushka debacle last year she would have brought it. Nope.

Previous Crush Who Disappointed:
Zac Posen. Last year his outfits made me catch my breath. Then Gweneth wore one of his best designs to the Oscars, rightfully, I was expecting something more. I just didn't see the creativity with the designs that he had last year. But I will continue to love him based on his wonderful his 2007 collection. He gets a pass this year. To really see what he can do check out his Resort 2008 collection. Gorgeous, no?

Outrageous and Completely Expected:
Enough said: Heatherette, Rock and Republic, Besty Johnson.

Once and Forever, Completely Overrated:
Marc Jacobs. What is the story with this guy? I have never seen one collection of his that didn't suck like a dying man trying to get poison from a bite. Yet, he is everywhere. Every magazine, fashion TV. This year his collection looks like it was put together by first year Home Ec students. I can't stand it. This guy is SO overrated.
