Betwixt

Everyday I get Merriam Websters: Word of the Day. I don't know why I love it so much, but I do. Half the time I read it so fast that my chances of recalling it and using it in savvy dinner conversation are pretty small. Of course, the chances that I would be part of savvy dinner conversation is about proportional. I prefer to restrict my conversation to the following, in no particular order: handbags, shoes, gossip, TV, exercise, and wine. So I was amply challenged when I got the word Betwixt. Meaning between. Which just sounds like it should be in a Jane Austen novel. Not that I am saying it wasn't, I would say that a word that has both a W and an X in it had a 20/20 shot of making it into one of her books. It would just fit. Elizabeth was betwixt Darcy and the door, knowing there was only one way out, she wrestled him to the floor, smothering him in kisses, and that my friends is the real reason they had to get married. Of course, I just made that up. Stop scowling, we both know Elizabeth wouldn't have pre-marital sex. It is doubtful, that Jane Austen knew how to have sex. In her world I am sure they still thought you could get pregnant from holding a man's hand alone in a carriage.
