Mixed Ball

It is my strong opinion that Mix and Mingle events, whether community, philanthropy or whatever are the new debutant balls. First off you need to belong to a group to usually get invited. Then it helps if you actually know someone who is going to be there. If not, you end up wandering around endlessly drinking white wine, and being studiously ignored by others.

Mix and Mingles tend to be very cliquey. Which means that there isn't a warm or encouraging feeling flowing in the room. Rarely do you feel that you could just walk up to someone and start conversation. Yet, these are what these events are supposed to be about. Networking.

Sometimes, you do meet someone new or find out something that helps you. And, of course, there is free wine. But most of the time I hate going to these things alone. I am not hip enough for these events alone. But on the other hand with the right amount of wine I could be Wonder Woman.

Yea, I'm the same way. Now, I can talk to anyone. Strike up a conversation and make people feel important, but I need to be accompanied by someone I actually know as well. Those things scare me!
