Close to Done

Sorry I have been MIA for a while. I had taken last week to do some renos on the house. And as with most renos I was busy, and covered in paint, pretty much from the time I woke up until I went to bed. The good news is we are almost done! I am so THRILLED with how beautifully everything has turned out so far. I am absolutely in love with our house right now. I will try to post some before and after pictures in the next few days so you can see what we have been up to.

First off, I have to say this is the smoothest any of our renos projects has ever gone. Mark and I got almost everything taped, filled and sanded for the painting before Mom and Dad arrived. This meant we could go almost straight into the painting. Painting I thought was going to take a lot longer, but thanks to Dad's expert painting skills went very smoothly. We actually got away with just two coast of paint in the living room. Now you have to understand our living room was this horrendous red colour with a faux pink finish sponged over it. It was so dark it made th entire house look dark, and small, something we didn't realize until after we finished putting the new colour up. I was sure it would take 3 coats to cover up such a dark colour.

Now for those of you who are looking at doing some painting. Word of advice: don't waste your money on expensive brand name paint. It seriously makes zero difference with the final product. Mark and I have bought our paint, for all 4 of our renos, at Liquidation World. We paid $14 for a can of paint, which is a hell of a lot less then paying $26-36 for paint at Home Depot. For this reno we got a Bone colour. So light, but with enough colour to add a little pizazz. And what a difference! Just by using a lighter colour, I swear we have gained like 2 extra feet on every side of the living room. The weird thing with this paint is that it looks like Bone in the daylight, but at night becomes almost a light green. Which is really strange, but looks lovely with the browny-green drapes we bought.

So after four days of hardwork we had the kitchen, living room, entryways, hallways, and main bathroom repainted. That just leaves the 3 bedrooms to be done. Something that can wait a few months. Mark even got the garage all organized. We had decided to get all our reno work done upfront so that we could actually enjoy this house. Unlike with the house in Lethbridge, where we only did the renos at the end in order to sell it. I am still hoping that if we ever move our next house won't need any work at all, but I think I am probably dreaming.
