Grating Mechanical Work

I have been pissed off about this since I got word from our insurance agent that it had to be done. Seems that if you have a car that is over 10 years of age and you switch insurance companies, which we had to do when we moved, you have to get an inspection. An inspection that you have to pay for. Which almost always results in the mechanic telling you there is work that has to be done on your car and saying it isn't road worthy.

If this isn't the biggest bunch of blackmailing bullshit I have every heard, I don't know what is. So, it is totally within the mechanics interest to fail your car so that they can convince you to have them do hundreds of dollars worth of work. Sure they can say you might go somewhere else and have it done, and possibly some people do. But I suspect that 95% of the time the person just sighs, bites back a few swear words and buckles under and has the work done.

Well I can tell you I am not one of those people. I have nothing against keeping my car road worthy, but the fact that I was told I needed to have approximately $700 worth of work done to my car, after I have just gone through a very expensive move, really gets my blood boiling. Oh, and if you don't get it done, you don't have insurance. This is f&cking extortion.

We were given 2 months to get the work done. The practical thing to do is to take the car into Calgary and get the work done at a lower price then anywhere in the Valley. I would love to do this, expect that the garages we have contacted in Calgary say they don't have technicians who can do the work on a Saturday. You know one of those pesky days when you don't have to be at work. Oh, and that they need the car all day so we would need to bring it in first thing in the morning. Hmmm, so I need to have it there around 8am on a weekday. Yeah, right. Seriously, when did it become apparent that companies have totally blocked out the fact that the vast majority of people work - full time- for a living?

So as you can imagine this has just made me angrier about this whole situation. So I have gone back to my insurance agent and told her to switch us to a company that doesn't require this work to be done. And, of course, this switch will cost us money. It's not just bankers who have their hands in your pockets.

I know this prolly won't help, but you're more than welcome to crash her for a few days in a row. That way if you can get an 8am appt in town, and you can stay in town, you can take it.
Wake up and fall asleep to the soothing sounds of 3 puppies jockeying for bedtime spots.
