Sanitation and Sanity

As a girl, I have the usual girl repulsions. I don't care to eat al fresco, too dirty. You already know how I feel about camping. Saliva, blood and other fluids are not the sorts of things I want to be near, unless they are my own. And like almost every woman I know, I have feet issues. Not my feet. My feet are beautiful (natch). My sister, Jill, on the other hand - mutant feet. Sadly, she got them from my dad.

But really nothing is as repulsive as unknown feet. Bare feet belonging to a person who you either don't like, or don't even know. They are like lethal weapons. Strange appendages just crawling with pestilence.

And any number of people, mainly men, have no idea how repulsive the normal bare foot is to most women. Men, I know you are now rolling your eyes, but think of it this way; how would you feel if a guy wearing really tight pants pressed up against you at a bar. Now you know.

You wanna talk foot phobias, chat up Jenn M . .

Regarding the foot thing, this is exactly the reason I don't like feet touching my pillow or my pillow touching the floor.

It's true, feet (except your own) are gross. I flip if someone's bare foot touches me! YUCK! I could go on and on and......

When I just start dating someone new, and it is winter-meaning they are always wearing socks. I will go into my kitchen to prepare drinks, while I am there I spill a bunch of water discreetly on the floor. Then I call out for their help in the kitchen, they get their sock feet covered in water and have to remove the wet socks. Now, strange wet socks are almost as gross as strange bare feet, but this is a necessary evil. I was engaged to a wonderful man at one point, had everything going for him, but he had the worst mutant feet I have ever seen on another human being! I hated those feet, I still shudder at the thought of those feet, I developed a HATE for those feet. I realize that it is shallow and selfish to break up with someone because they have nasty feet, so all I did was worry about how I would love a chid that was possibly attached to THOSE FEET!? The relationship didn’t work out for a number of reasons, but now I am cautious and I always check the feet prior to falling in love! They are not a deal breaker, but they can come damn close!

We are all in agreement then! and just to gross everyone out old men with thick yellow toe nails should not be allowed to show their feet in any venue.

I think feet are ghastly and horrifying, and yet I have a strange fascination with them -- I ALWAYS notice peoples' bare feet, and I always covertly look closely and try to imagine stories of their lives based on the details I see in them.

Of course, I am hypocritical -- I have recently eschewed shoes entirely and started to wander around barefoot. Double standard. I don't want to see anyone else's feet, but the world must run the risk of seeing mine if it so happens to glance down.
