Raging Against the System

I can not believe that at our provincial election yesterday the PC's won a landslide majority. I heard someone say they would, but I didn't believe it. Silly me, I thought that 37 years in power for one government MIGHT JUST be too long. When you have one party at the helm for that length of time, I believe they should have to start calling it a benevolent (or not) dictatorship.

Strangely, even though I have grown up in this province and should know better, I thought, maybe - just maybe - we could start being a province where change was encouraged. Where debate and transparency could be pursued. That we could leave such a paternalistic type of power structure behind. But NEVER question blind devotion. It will only break your heart.

One thing I can now say for a fact though, is that that adage about a room full of monkeys writing the great American novel is not so far fetched. In Alberta, you can put a monkey in a suit, slap a PC pin on his breast and he can get elected. Bananas optional.
