Suspicious of Everyone

Suspicion

On my run today I realized, I am suspicious of everyone. Not all the time. But definitely when I am out running. I don't like to run past groups of guys out walking. Actually, I think to be total honest, I don't like running past groups of young people period. Not just because I am afraid they might jump me, but because it wouldn't be unheard of to hear sniggers as I run by.

I also don't like skezzy older guys. And for some strange reason I can't seem to find a trail system that doesn't have at least one middle-aged, long haired guy wearing a military jacket out strolling aimlessly. Call it paranoia, and I know you are, but I have watched too many shows about random violence. Attacking a lone runner who is on a quiet trail seems totally plausible to me. So I have started to carry my cell. But really, I think it would be better to get some pepper spray.

Of course, running in Canmore and Banff it is not just the human predators I need to be aware of. And the fact that you are surrounded by so much silent wilderness probably factors in. But around here if it has four legs and fangs you have a good chance of coming upon it picking through some stupid persons improperly disposed of pizza box. Just looking for a little desert.

Morale to this story: I no longer wear my iPod when I run, and I am strongly considering taking a Kung-Fu for wildlife class.

I don't think it's wrong to be suspicious. You never know how many times that suspicion has already saved your life! [from one paranoid gal to another!] and the only reason you feel weird about it is because nothing has happened. But maybe your paranoia is WHY nothing has happened.
