In Search of a Yellow Dress

Today is the first day of spring. I like to celebrate spring by going shopping at Sears. By using my Sears card I can be sure that my favorite store will stay in touch with me for the rest of the year.

I know it is sort of strange that an X'er like me should like Sears. I should shop at the Gap. Because you know what is better than one boat necked sweater - five different coloured boat neck sweaters! My horror at cotton blend hoodies aside, this middle class replusion doesn't seem to apply to Old Navy. That is if we had one. Then l'd surely prop my sleeping bag and microwave popcorn under my arm and head out. I also don't mind Winners, but sometimes you have to wade through a lot to find one thing you like. And though they have cute shoes, they are ALWAYS over priced. Which makes Sears my favorite consumerist mecca.

On further reflection good deals and normal sized pants aren't the only things to love about Sears. Many still have lunch counters. So you can shop, lunch, then shop some more. Where else can you get a wrap and a washing machine?

But I think my obsession goes far deeper. If I had an analyst I am sure they would say it stems from childhood. Sears is the only place I remember my mother and I going to buy clothes together. Sears was our church. Safe ground. A place where we could be sure we wouldn't kill each other by stuffing clothing what we thought was cool down the other's throat.
