Making the Most of Winter

I have never been a winter person. Honestly, I really think I should be planning a move to someplace warm, like the Caribbean. That would fit my personal peccadillos much better. But since fate has taken us to a place where snow drops by the train load, we figured we should take advantage of it. Hence the last few weekends we have gone for an ice walk to Johnston Canyon, snowshoeing to the Paint Pots, and this past weekend out to Lake Louise. My snow pants have gotten more play in the last few weeks then in the 5 years I have owned them.

We really enjoyed each of these activities, and were very lucky that we had nice weather, for winter anyway. We have now decided to purchase snowshoes. In all my life I never thought I would own snowshoes!

Lake Louise, itself, is unreal in the winter. I have only ever been there in the summer, and I was absolutely stupefied by the amount of snow! I thought we got a lot in Banff, but Lake Louise was practically buried under the white stuff. We learned that it stays like this for 6 months of the year. And people actually choose to live there! One afternoon was enough for me. It was very pretty, but I couldn't live with snow that long. I am already counting down the days to spring.

Next week we are going into Calgary on Saturday. Living in a resort community can be great, but everything here is much more expensive then in a normal community. So to Calgary we will go to buy groceries, get some work done on the car, and pick up some house hold essentials. There is definitely a trade off in all this splendor.
